OpenRouter or a focused API?

Updated 2026-10-18 · Model range, price, APIs, cost control and failed calls compared, and when we are not the right choice.

OpenRouter puts hundreds of models from many providers behind one API, which is very convenient. If most of your traffic goes to models such as DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi or MiniMax, here is how to decide whether AIFans API suits you better.

When we are not the right choice

  • You mainly need GPT, Claude or Gemini: we do not offer them.
  • You need image, video or speech generation: we offer chat models only.
  • Your data must not leave a particular region, or your compliance rules limit which model makers you may use.

Switching

Usually you only change the base URL, the API key and the model name; see the OpenAI SDK guide. Sign up and compare models in the Playground before you move traffic.
